Balusters (or spindles) are a set of closely spaced vertical posts or columns that support the handrail of a staircase railing. Balusters can be made of metal (brass, steel, wrought-iron), wood, stone, glass etc.
A balustrade consists of a row of evenly spaced small columns (balusters) topped by a handrail. Found lining many staircases, balconies, porches, and terraces, a balustrade can be present in both indoor and outdoor spaces. Balustrades serve multiple purposes- to provide safety, to prevent someone from falling and to cordon off areas for privacy- all while making a design statement.
